Loretta Yoder History |
Music and art were Loretta Yoder’s first loves as a young girl growing up outside of Buffalo, NY. She continued that double pursuit at Goshen College, Indiana, graduating with a vocal major and art minor. Eventually the music/art path led her to the stage and she earned a Masters Degree in Theatre from Indiana University. For the next 30+ years Loretta had a successful career in and around Indianapolis theatre/opera as a Stage, Artistic, or Producing Director, culminating with the purchase of a summer “barn” theatre in Saugatuck, MI. Along the way she also did set design/painting /decor, costumes, props and lighting, but her love for the canvas and easel never diminished. Since 2004 she has been a full-time painter on Nantucket. Recent study has been in workshops with nationally known artists Diane Rath (Chicago; Putney, VT), Gregg Kreutz (Nantucket, Chicago), Hagop Keledjian (Putney, Rockport, MA), Mary Minifie, Carleen Muniz, John Caggiano, Charles Sovek, Jeff Weaver in Gloucester/Rockport, and Thimgan Hayden in Saugatuck, MI. Artist’s Statement: "I see. I feel. I paint. The process of seeing beauty in an ordinary subject, recognizing what it is that moves me, and then presenting it is a daily source of joy. As an oil painter, I love the excitement the medium offers. Every single canvas is a new adventure -- discovering variety and harmony in colors vivid or subtle, using texture and line and rhythm and edge and light and dark ---- the choices are mind boggling but never boring. To see what I see and engage viewers with my choices -- that is the goal." |
