Loretta Yoder History |
Music and art were Loretta Yoder’s first loves as a young girl growing up outside of Buffalo, NY. She did chalk drawings to music at her church and sang in an a cappella trio at age 12. Continuing this double interest at Goshen College, IN, she graduated with a vocal major and art minor. Eventually the music/art path led her to the stage and she earned a Masters Degree in Theatre from Indiana University. For the next 30+ years Loretta had a successful career in and around Indianapolis theatre/opera as a Stage, Artistic, or Producing Director, culminating with the purchase of a summer “barn” theatre in Saugatuck, MI. Along the way she also did set design/painting /decor, costumes, props and lighting, but her love for the canvas and easel never diminished. Recent study has been in workshops with nationally known artists Diane Rath (Chicago; Putney, VT), Gregg Kreutz (Nantucket, Chicago), Line' Tutwiler, John Caggiano, Carleen Muniz, Charles Sovek, Jeff Weaver in Gloucester/Rockport, MA; Elle Foley, William Welch in Nantucket; and Thimgan Hayden in Saugatuck, MI. Artist’s Statement: “To ‘paint what you see’ is a deceptively simple maxim. It begs much larger questions of what and how one sees and why and where one places brushstrokes. The ultimate goal is to find clarity and be effective with each -- vision and technique. It is a lifelong pursuit. I want to engage viewers with my choices, provide enjoyment, perhaps even a bit of excitement, and, at the very least, affect an appreciation of the world around us.”
